What happened to Stocard?
Stocard was acquired by Klarna in 2021. Over the following years, it was gradually absorbed into the Klarna app. In March 2026, Stocard was officially shut down. Users were given roughly two weeks to migrate their card collections to Klarna or lose everything.
Many users reported migration failures, lost card data, and a Klarna experience focused on buy-now-pay-later rather than simple loyalty card storage. If you relied on Stocard for years, you're not alone in looking for a proper replacement.
What to look for in a Stocard replacement
A good Stocard alternative should preserve what made Stocard great and fix what it lacked:
- Barcode scanning: quick digitization of loyalty cards
- Offline access: barcodes available without internet at checkout
- No payment upsells: a wallet app, not a BNPL platform
- Data export: your cards aren't held hostage
- Privacy: encryption so card data isn't exposed in a breach
Ideally, the replacement also adds features Stocard never had: gift card balance tracking, family sharing with live sync, and cross-platform support across iPhone and Android.
Why CardWarden is built as a Stocard successor
CardWarden was created by a long-time Stocard user who started building when Klarna acquired Stocard and began dismantling it. The core experience is familiar: scan a card, show the barcode at checkout, and use it offline. CardWarden also adds:
- Family sharing with live balance sync across household devices
- Gift card support with balance tracking and built-in balance checker
- End-to-end encryption: zero-knowledge, encrypted on device before upload
- Cross-platform sync: iPhone and Android in the same family pocket
- No ads or payment upsells: focused on card storage, not selling you credit
How to switch from Stocard to CardWarden
Step 1: Install CardWarden
Download CardWarden on the App Store or Google Play. Create your account and set up your first pocket.
Step 2: Re-scan your loyalty cards
Unfortunately, Stocard's shutdown means there's no reliable import path for most users. The fastest migration is to scan each loyalty card barcode into CardWarden. Most people finish in under ten minutes. Use retailer templates to speed up common stores.
Step 3: Add your gift cards
Stocard didn't handle gift cards well. CardWarden stores them alongside loyalty cards with balance tracking. Enter the remaining value and expiry date for each.
Step 4: Set up family sharing
If your household shared cards via Stocard screenshots, create a family pocket instead. Everyone gets live barcodes and balances. That's a major upgrade over what Stocard offered.
CardWarden vs other Stocard alternatives
Several apps compete in the loyalty card space. SuperCards and mobile-pocket offer scanning and offline access. Klarna absorbed Stocard's user base but pivoted to payments. CardWarden's differentiator is the combination of Stocard-style simplicity with family sync, gift card balances, and encryption.
