The problem with sharing cards via screenshots
Most families share store cards the hard way: someone texts a barcode screenshot to the group chat. It works once for a loyalty card, until the photo gets buried. For gift cards it fails faster: someone spends part of the balance and forgets to update everyone. The next person arrives at checkout with a stale barcode and the wrong amount.
Some people forward the original email or share Apple Wallet passes, but those don't keep a shared household view either. The result: awkward moments at the register, wasted money on gift cards everyone thought were empty, or missing rewards points because nobody had the loyalty barcode handy.
What you actually need: live family sync
To share loyalty and gift cards with family properly, you need three things:
- One shared source of truth, not scattered screenshots
- Live updates, when one person uses a card or updates a gift card balance, everyone sees it
- Cross-platform access: iPhone and Android in the same household

How to share loyalty and gift cards with CardWarden
Step 1: Create your family and invite members
The family owner who purchased Premium Family should sign up for a CardWarden account if they have not already. Then go to Settings > Manage profile & family > Family and create your family group if needed.
Invite each household member in one of two ways:
- By email: Send an invitation to their email address. They install CardWarden on iPhone or Android, open Enter family invitation code on the first screen, and enter the code from the email.
- Kids Mode (under 16): Tap Have a child? Try kids mode to generate a QR code. On the child's device, open Enter family invitation code, then choose Scan QR for Kids Mode and scan the parent's QR. Kids Mode does not require the child to create an account.
Step 2: Share a pocket with family members
Joining the family does not automatically share every pocket. Open the pocket you want to share, tap the button in the top-right of the app bar, and choose Share. On the Share Pocket screen, pick a role for each person, then tap Share beside their name.
You can share different pockets with different people, and change or revoke access later from the same screen. A common setup is one shared pocket for household loyalty and gift cards, while personal pockets stay yours alone.
Step 3: Add loyalty and gift cards to the shared pocket
Scan the barcode or select a retailer template. For gift cards, enter the starting balance. Each card appears on every device that has access to that pocket: encrypted and synced.
Step 4: Anyone with access checks out
Whoever is shopping opens the loyalty or gift card and shows the barcode. CardWarden works offline, so poor store signal is not a problem.
Step 5: Gift card balances sync automatically
After a gift card purchase, someone with User or Editor access updates the remaining balance (or uses the built-in retailer balance checker). The new amount appears on every shared device within seconds. No group chat update needed. Loyalty barcodes stay ready for the next trip without extra steps.
Viewer, User, and Editor roles
When you share a pocket, you choose how much each person can do:
- Viewer: Can open cards and show barcodes at checkout, but cannot change balances or edit cards. A good default for kids or anyone who should only look up a card.
- User: Can use cards and update gift card balances after spending, but cannot add, edit, or delete cards. Useful for partners who shop with shared loyalty and gift cards.
- Editor: Full day-to-day control of the pocket's cards: add, edit, delete, and update balances. (Only the pocket owner can manage who the pocket is shared with.)
Child members in Kids Mode can be assigned Viewer or User only.
Loyalty, gift cards, and more
Family sharing works especially well for loyalty cards and gift cards: supermarket rewards, pharmacy programs, coffee stamps, and store credit you want the whole household to use.
